Ramsey, Arthur, Sr.

(born: 1922  -  died: 1985) 

Arthur Ramsey, Sr., born in Kentucky, began playing baseball in the Negro League in 1945 when he joined the Knoxville Giants; he later played for the Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords. He also played for teams in Minneapolis and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Ramsey, a career .300 hitter, played second base and was considered a good base runner. In 1954, he moved to Detroit to play baseball and was later a member of the Old-Timers' All-Stars. He is also a member of the Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame Gallery in Detroit, MI, and was inducted into the Negro League Hall of Fame in Ashland, KY.

Ramsey died July 31, 1985.
