Cruse, Charles Plummer "C. P."
(born: 1914 - died: 1985) Charles P. Cruse was one of the first African American police officers in Lexington, KY, serving in the 1940s and 1950s for about 15 years. He had also served as 1st District Constable. In 1973 he was the second African American to run for Fayette County Sheriff but was unsuccessful in his campaign.Charles P. Cruse was the husband of Clemintena Cruse. He was born in Fayette County, the son of Charles H. (an insurance agent) and Jenny Irvin Cruse; the family lived on Chestnut Street.
