In 1920 the Camp Knox team was a Kentucky champion of Colored football. In November that year, the "soldiers eleven" were preparing to travel to Indiana to face the Ex-Collegians, a Colored football team in Indianapolis. For more see "Ex-Collegians work," The Indianapolis Star, 11/16/1920, p. 12.
Camp Knox would become Fort Knox. It had been established by Congress in 1918 as a field artillery training range for Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville. There were thousands of Colored soldiers stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor during World War I.
