Harris, Albert and Maria
Like many enslaved couples in Kentucky, Albert and Maria Harris considered themselves to be husband and wife. They were separated and sold by their owner. At the end of slavery, they searched for one another for 37 years and on February 17, 1886, they were remarried in Saline County, MO. Maria was 66 years old, she had been living in Louisville, KY, and Albert was 71 years old, he had been living in Missouri.
