Zella H. Grooms was living in Cincinnati, OH when she enlisted in the Army, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases, and in Ancestry. She was born in Princeton, KY, the daughter of Lucille Easley and Willie Grooms. The 1930 U.S. Census indicates Zella Grooms lived in Henderson, KY with her grandparents, Rev. L. G. and Pauline Easley.
By 1942, Zella was living in Cincinnati; two years later she enlisted in the Army. After her military service she returned to Cincinnati and purchased a piece of property on Audubon Street. Zella was employed as a typist at the VA in 1951. The following year, she married Frank Smith on September 30, 1952. The next year, the couple filed for divorce, which was granted in 1954. Zella later married William Anderson and remained in Cincinnati, where she died in 1987. She is buried in Landmark Memorial Gardens.
