Katherine M. Whaley was born in Maysville, KY, the daughter to Kattie Myall and Walter Whaley. The family is enumerated in the 1930 U.S. Census. Katherine M. Whaley enlisted in the Army in 1943, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases. She served during WWII and the Korean War.

Katherine M. Whaley married Samuel Husbands on January 2, 1946. The couple lived in New York. Katherine Marie Whaley Husbands died in Calverton, NY, in 2021. She is buried in the Calverton National Cemetery.
