Trent, Djuan(born: 1986)
Djuan Trent, born in Columbus, GA, is a former beauty pageant. She was 2010 Miss Berea Area and the 2010 Miss Kentucky. She is the fourth African American woman to become Miss Kentucky, and she competed for the title twice before winning it in 2010. Her platform was homeless prevention. Trent was one of the 10 finalists for the Miss America Pageant and was voted Contestant's Choice. Djuan Trent is a graduate of Berea College where she majored in theater performance. In 2014, Trent announced publicly that she was queer. She is the first national pageant winner to come out as queer, and she is one of the few African American women with national visibility to come out as queer. Trent is a gay rights advocate. She was named an honorary co-chair of Southerners For Freedoom to Marry, an advocacy group for same sex marriage. For more see djuanTRENT blog; and the many interviews and articles, including the C.
