Hunter, Lawrence Vester [Noxubee Industrial School, MS]
(born: December 5, 1890 - died: November 23, 1958)Lawrence V. Hunter, born in Bowling Green, KY, was principal of Noxubee Industrial School in McLeod, MS. The school was founded in 1898 by his father, Samuel J. Hunter (1865-1918) from Arkansas. After Samuel's death, L. V. Hunter took over management of the school.
The school produced a monthly publication, Hunter's Horn. Photos of the school are available at the Mississippi State University Libraries. L. V. Hunter's mother, Minnie Esther Lane Hunter (1869-1942) from Macon, MS, also served as principal of the Noxubee Industrial School. Her son, L. V. Hunter, was a graduate of Fisk University. He served with Company H 809 Pioneer Infantry during World War I and received an honorable discharge. Lawrence Vester Hunter is buried in the Methodist Cemetery in Macon, Mississippi.
The Noxubee Industrial School closed in 1958 after the death of L. V. Hunter.
