Shannon, John W.

(born: Sept. 13, 1933  -  died: Mar. 17, 2017) 

Born in Louisville, KY, Colonel Shannon served as liaison officer in the Office of the Secretary of the Army. He was sworn in as the Under Secretary of the Army in 1989, serving at that post until 1993. He earned numerous awards in the area of military force development and structure, personnel policy, and administrative and congressional affairs.

John W. Shannon served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War as a military advisor and battalion commander.

Col. Shannon was a graduate of Central State University and Shippensburg State College [now Shippensburg University]. He died March 17, 2017 in Maryland and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. See his obituary.
